MDF — Our Standard
Medium-Density Fibreboard
- +Denser, more uniform structure — no voids or weak points
- +Superior screw retention; hinges and fittings stay secure for decades
- +Smoother surface takes lacquer and veneer with flawless finish
- +Higher resistance to moisture swelling and warping over time

Chipboard — Industry Norm
Particle Board
- −Made from compressed wood chips and adhesive — inconsistent density
- −Screws loosen over time; fittings pull out with repeated use
- −Rough, porous surface; edges require heavy sealing to look presentable
- −Highly absorbent; swells and delaminates when moisture gets in
- −Lighter, hollow feel — cheaper to ship, cheaper to live with
MDF costs more to produce and more to ship. That is precisely why most suppliers default to chipboard. At Kitchens on Tap, we believe the carcase is the skeleton of your kitchen — and it should be built from bone, not cardboard.
